Along with baseball, there are a host of other recreational activities happening in the capital. To the pleasant surprise of foreign visitors, especially fans of the “Fast and Furious” Hollywood films, one sporting activity that has gained in popularity here is professional drag racing. Because the “Fast & Furious 4” film was partially made in the Dominican Republic (due to actor Vin Diesel’s personal connection to the country), one event that has drawn large crowds has been “Santo Domingo Drift” — held at “Autodromo Mobil 1” just east of the capital. Such events often attract drivers from neighboring Puerto Rico, USA, and even Haiti, as well as local Dominican talent.
