Budvar České Budějovice

Budvar České Budějovice (Karolíny Světlé 4, České Budějovice) — located 1 hour & 45 minutes south of Prague (via route E55), this is a beer lover’s destination. American beer consumers who know the brand “Budweiser” will be particularly interested in hearing that the very name of this place means “Budweiser” in the Czech language (stirring speculation as to the actual origins of the American beer).

This brewery offers visitors not only an entertaining and engaging introduction to the process of beer making but also delicious dining at the Masné krámy (meaning “Meat Market”) restaurant. A multimedia exhibition educates visitors with over 700 years of brewing here, while the aroma of Moravian malt and Žatec hops fills the air. Among the attractions here is a Gothic-Renaissance-style cabin with an exhibition on medieval brewing. The visit ends in style with a 3D film about beer. In the Masné krámy restaurant and beer hall, visitors can sample Old Bohemian dishes and local specialities. Tour price: CZK 100 per person (CZK 500 for children under 18 and students). Hours: 9 am – 5 pm (daily / March – December), 9 am – 5 pm (Tuesdays to Saturdays only / January & February).
