Rara Avis (Teatro Solís, Buenos Aires 652, Montevideo) – this elegantly-furnished restaurant, opened in 2009, serves a variety of dishes (from king prawns, to Patagonian lamb, and marrow bone risotto). Rara Avis has already attracted a VIP clientele, including the presidents of both the country and its neighbors. Because of its location at Teatro Solís, expect an opera singer to occasionally serenade diners from table to table. There’s also an elevated stage where a jazz pianist may show up to entertain the diners.
